The Heart Behind Shifting Waters
Reaching out and choosing to work with me is an act of trust.
My name is Kerri House, Certified Professional Life Coach and founder of Shifting Waters Coaching. I live in Louisville, Kentucky, with my office in La Grange, and completed my certification through the Certified Life Coach Institute (CLCI). I offer life coaching and mentorship for individuals moving through change, uncertainty, or simply feeling ready for something different in their lives. Sessions are offered in person in La Grange, with many clients coming from Louisville and the surrounding areas; virtual sessions are also available.
The story below shares the experiences and values that shaped both me and the heart behind Shifting Waters Coaching.
I grew up in a city along the western edge of Lake Superior — known to the Ojibwe people of the Great Lakes as Gichigami — the great water. Growing up with this lake as my backdrop, I learned early that life moves in seasons.
There are seasons of stillness and seasons of storm. Seasons of renewal, growth, release, and reflection. The lake reflected that truth constantly — sometimes calm and still, sometimes fierce and unpredictable. It was this truth — that change is constant, and that even turbulent waters can lead us to new shores — that shaped not only my story, but the heart of Shifting Waters Coaching. It is also where growth takes root and new directions begin.
Over time, that understanding of change became more than personal — it became the foundation of my professional work.
Today, Shifting Waters Coaching is based just outside Louisville in La Grange, Kentucky, where I meet clients in person, with virtual sessions also available for those who prefer that option. Wherever you live, you are welcome here.
Experience That Shaped My Work
After relocating to the Louisville area, I spent more than 14 years supporting others through their times of change while working alongside a brilliant and deeply compassionate board-certified psychiatrist. His mentorship deeply changed how I listen, reflect, and engage with people. While my role was not clinical, being immersed in an environment grounded in thoughtful care, curiosity, and respect for the human story profoundly influenced my approach.
I remain deeply grateful for the years I was able to learn alongside him and witness the extraordinary care he gave to the patients he served.
When his unexpected passing brought that chapter to an end, it marked a significant turning point in my own life — one that clarified what had long been true; the work that I had been doing informally for years, needed its own name and its own home. Shifting Waters Coaching grew out of that transition, created not only by change, but by loss — experiences that deepened my commitment to meeting people with compassion, steadiness, and care.
After more than a decade of experience working within a private psychiatric practice, my understanding of change — its rhythms, its uncertainty, and the way it touches us — has been formed not only by years of professional work, but by loss, transition, and lived experience.
Because this work has always been my passion, becoming a certified life coach was simply the natural next step, giving a name to what has long been my calling.
You don't have to navigate life's changing seasons alone.
